Who publishes TestYourChoice
TestYourChoice is an independent educational project, not a company or a newsroom. It is run by one person: Haroon Ejaz, who researches, writes, edits, and publishes everything here.
Pages carry one of two bylines, and they mean different things:
- TestYourChoice — published by the site as an organization. Haroon researched, wrote, and edited the page; the byline is the publisher rather than a personal essay credit.
- Haroon Ejaz — a personal piece, written in the first person or drawing on his own working experience.
There is no editorial team, no panel of contributors, and no separate fact-checking desk. The same person who writes a page is the person who checks it. We say this plainly because a shared "editorial team" byline would imply staff that do not exist.
How a knowledge quiz is made
Knowledge quizzes have one correct answer per question. Each one is built in the same order:
- Pick a topic where a short, structured check genuinely helps someone learn.
- Read published, checkable material on the subject — standards bodies, government and public-health sources, official documentation, established reference works, or peer-reviewed research, depending on the field.
- Write questions that test understanding rather than recall of trivia, and write an explanation for every question, including the ones you get right.
- Re-read the finished quiz for accuracy, ambiguity, and questions where more than one answer could defensibly be correct.
- Publish, then correct it when a reader finds something wrong.
Difficulty labels (Easy, Medium, Hard) are an editorial judgement about the assumed background knowledge, not a calibrated measurement.
How a choice test works, and exactly how it is scored
Choice tests are a different format and are not scored. There is no right answer, no percentage, and no pass mark. They work like this:
- Each test defines a small set of named profiles — usually four.
- Every answer option in the test is mapped to exactly one of those profiles.
- When you finish, your answers are tallied. The profile you selected most often is the one you are shown.
- If two profiles tie, the one listed first in the test wins. Nothing more sophisticated happens.
- Your answers are processed in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and no account is created.
These profiles are written as prompts for self-reflection. They are not a psychometric instrument. They have not been validated against any established scale, they have no reliability or norming data behind them, and they should not be used for diagnosis, hiring, screening, clinical assessment, or any decision about another person. A different mood on a different day may well produce a different profile — which is itself worth thinking about, and is roughly the extent of what the format can honestly offer.
Sources and references
Where a page makes a factual, statistical, medical, financial, legal, or safety-related claim, it should name the source that supports it, and the reference should support the specific nearby claim rather than the general topic.
Reference lists are shown in a "Sources and further reading" panel at the foot of the page. Not every page carries one yet: older material was published before this policy existed. Those pages are being reviewed and either sourced, qualified, or rewritten. If you land on a page that asserts something specific and shows no source, that is a defect — please tell us and it will be treated as a correction.
Sources are chosen because they support the claim, not to decorate the page with citations.
Use of AI tools
We think readers are entitled to know this, so: AI tools are used here for background research, for drafting outlines, and for editing suggestions such as tightening a paragraph or catching an awkward sentence.
The published wording is written by a person. AI output is not published as-is, and an AI tool is never treated as a source — anything it surfaces has to be confirmed against the underlying published material before it appears on the site. Responsibility for every claim on every page rests with the named editor, not with a tool.
Corrections
Corrections matter more than inbox order, so they are handled first.
- How to report one: use the contact page and choose "A correction". A link, a quiz question number, or a quoted sentence makes it much faster to act on.
- What happens: the claim is checked against published sources. If it is wrong, it is fixed. If it is defensible but was stated too strongly, it is qualified or sourced. If it is right, we will say why.
- What you will see: a corrected page shows an updated date. Substantive corrections — a wrong answer, a wrong figure, a claim that has been withdrawn — are noted on the page itself rather than changed silently.
- What we will not do: remove accurate content because someone dislikes it, or quietly rewrite history on a page that gave bad information.
Publication and update dates
The date on a page is the date that page was published. If a page shows an update date as well, the content changed on that date — a fixed claim, a new source, a rewritten section. We do not refresh dates to make old pages look new.
Independence and advertising
Nothing on this site is sponsored, paid for, or placed by an advertiser. There are no affiliate links, no paid guest posts, and no sponsored quizzes. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed on the page in question before you read it.
The site carries third-party advertising to cover its costs. Advertisers have no access to, and no influence over, what is published. See the privacy policy for how advertising and analytics handle your data, and the disclaimer for the limits of the content itself.
What this site is not
TestYourChoice publishes general education. It is not professional advice, and the person writing it is not a qualified professional in most of the fields covered:
- Finance content is not financial, investment, tax, debt, or legal advice, and is not tailored to your circumstances. Rules and figures also vary by country.
- Health, sleep, and nutrition content is not medical advice and does not diagnose or treat anything.
- Psychology content is not clinical assessment, therapy, or diagnosis.
- Career content is not employment, legal, or hiring advice, and choice-test profiles must not be used to assess a candidate.
